Be Whale Wise
Make a difference for endangered Southern Resident killer
whales. Follow Be Whale Wise regulations and guidelines:
▸ Avoid approaching Southern Resident
killer whales within 1,000 yards, and at
minimum stay the required distance away
(see BeWhaleWise.org).
▸
Watch for the Whale Warning
Flag. If you see the flag, that
means there are whales
nearby. Slow down!
▸ Turn off fish finders or depth
sounders in the presence of whales.
▸ For recreational kayakers and
people using other non-motorized
vessels: Wait to launch until killer
whales are more than a half-mile
away, stay close to shore and raft
up if whales are nearby.
▸ Report violations to Washington
Department of Fish and Wildlife
Enforcement at 877-933-9847 or at
BeWhaleWise.org.
